Tell us about your business, its history, and how you build customer loyalty.
Landa Designs offers a full line of Pageant, Bridal, Bridesmaids, and Prom offerings, with emphasis and strength in the Signature Pageant line. Landa was founded in 1988 by Eric and Wendy Shum, who named the company after their only daughter, Yolanda. A sincere passion for each customer to have the best experience possible has made our customer loyalty second to none.
Who is your main designer or designers?
Eric and Wendy Shum.
What divisions (e.g., Prom, Pageant, Social Occasion, Bridal, etc.) do you design for and market?
Pageant, Prom, Bridal, Bridesmaids, and Social Occasion.
What size ranges do you offer?
Sizes 2 – 28.
Please identify three characteristics about your designs and business services that you are known for.
Quality is something that coincides with the name Landa; each gown in every collection is inspected with immaculate detail. Providing a couture gown is not a luxury; it is a must. Walking hand-in-hand with unprecedented quality is Landa’s guarantee to assure every customer’s uncompromised satisfaction. Color, size, fit, and fabric will be tailored to the exact specifications of the clients to ensure their desired effect. Any issue in this area or any other will be considered personally and promptly through the world headquarters. Landa’s customer service representatives will make it their personal responsibility to listen to the needs of the customer and assess them with great consideration.
How do you keep your design ideas current?
Landa’s designs are inspired by the company’s retail customers themselves, says Wendy Shum. “We take their ideas, along with our professional design team here in the U.S. along with our European contributors, and come out with a great finished product that is appealing to everyone.” Keeping Landa’s collection fresh and new is an easy task. Each designer provides a diverse eye and has unique inspiration sources, as well as direct involvement with the demographics and industries to which they cater.
As a designer, where do you receive the most satisfaction?
The preponderance of the satisfaction of this job comes when a design has made a full evolution: from idea, to paper, to sample, to store, and then to the smiling customer.
What fashion looks and fabric-usage trends do you predict will emerge in the near future?
The designs for the upcoming years have, literally, endless possibilities. Lengths, cuts, colors, and fabrics (even printed fabric) are all on the table. Charmeuse is not likely to go anywhere; it remains hot on the pageant stage and on the prom dance floor. The flowing nature and light-catching sheen of charmeuse easily lends itself to flattering looks in a plethora of sizes, shapes, and colors.
What design trends do you predict will fade from the fashion scene?
The gorgeous, figure-flattering mermaid-shape gowns, as fabulous as they will remain on the pageant scene, are predictably going to become less in-demand with today’s prom goers. The girls today are looking for something visually fabulous and dance-floor-ready.
What aspects of the fashion business bring you the greatest satisfaction?
The ongoing need and hope to achieve customer satisfaction is the greatest part of this industry. That is one thing that Landa has pursued throughout the years and will continue to strive to attain. Eric and Wendy Shum boldly assert that Landa Designs’ dedication to understanding and fulfilling customers needs — backed by the company’s 20 years of experience in delivering customer support — with gowns available in a wide variety of styles at the right price has added up to unparalleled happiness on their end.
