Winners Abound in MAO State Pageants
The 2010 Miss America Pageant may not be until January 30, but the field of competitors is already begin to shape up as six states crowned their queens over the weekend. The action began in Missouri as 28 women competed for the Miss Missouri title, which was ultimately awarded to Tara Osseck. A few hours away, 41 women watched as 20-year old Oklahoma University student Taylor Treat was crowned Miss Oklahoma. Taylor steps into some big shoes as two of the last three Miss Oklahoma winners have been crowned Miss America (Jennifer Berry-Gooden in 2006, Lauren Nelson in 2007). Twenty-three year old Nicole Miner had finished in the Top 5 in the last three Miss New Mexico Pageants and the fourth time was the charm as she took the overall title this time around. Miss Omaha Brittany Jeffers finished first in community service, interview and evening wear en route to being named Miss Nebraska. Just south of Brittany, Becki Ronen didn’t win any of her pageant’s preliminaries but that didn’t stop her from shining on the final night and being crowned Miss Kansas 2009. Down in Alabama, Miss Hoover Liz Cochran won the title of Miss Alabama on her third time competing in the state pageant.
